Homemade Dreamsicles

Do you know the difference between a Dreamsicle and a Creamsicle?

I didn’t so I went digging around online. There are a couple of conclusions:

  1. A difference between brands. Creamsicles and Dreamsicles were not under the same company of Popsicles.

  2. A difference in ingredients. Dreamsicles are to have an ice milk center, and Creamsicles a ice cream center.  Referencing that milk has  “less” of a creamy texture compared to that of ice cream.

Regardless of what you decide to call them (today the names are used interchangeably) the idea behind the frozen desserts is a pleasant combination of orange and vanilla.

These dreamsicles might not have the classic “cream” center, but blended together It’s still as bright and refreshing as what you can purchase at the store. These homemade dreamsicles can come together in a flash for a hot summer day.

These homemade dreamsicles are the perfect blend of orange and vanilla.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of oranges (about 500g or 2 medium oranges), peeled and pulled apart
  • ½ cup (120g/ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (120g/ml) orange juice
  • ¼ cup (40g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. Place peeled oranges in a blender and blend together until the oranges are fully liquified.
  2. Add in the orange juice, heavy cream, and sugar, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
  3. Using a spoon stir in orange zest until fully incorporated.
  4. Carefully pour the dreamsicle liquid into popsicles molds*.
  5. Place the lid on the mold and insert popsicle sticks 3/4-ths of the way.
  6. Carefully transfer it to a flat surface in the freezer. Freeze for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  7. To remove the dreamsicles from the mold with the lid still on, run the mold under warm water for a few seconds.
  8. Remove the lid, and carefully pull out dreamsicles.

Notes

*I used a silicone mold, but any type of popsicle mold will do. Depending on the size of the molds, you might yield more or less dreamsicles.
